| POMP AND
CIRCUMSTANCE
The day has finally come. You march in a
procession down that long aisle in the main gymnasium, behind Board of
Govenors, Mace, the Dean, and Professors. Pomp and Circumstance bellows
from the band above. You are dressed in a black gown. Family and friends look
onward to get a glimpse as you are seated. Awards and Honourary Degrees are
presented. The Valedictorian gives the class speech. Your name is called. You
walk across the stage. Kneel in front of the President of the University where
he puts on your hood. You pick up your degree. The ceremony ends. Then the
paparazzi and photo ops begin.
The day has arrived. The Class of 1999 was
finished at UW. We were now ready to hit the real world. It was one final
chance to see people from our graduating class. At this point, everyone's
lives were starting to change. People were getting jobs, pursuing further
academic studies, or were taking a well-deserved vacation.
This was the final chapter in my life at the
University of Waterloo. I wish the best to all my fellow classmates on all
their endeavours. One day, we will meet up again.
